Bio
Award winning Contemporary Paper Artist, Mitchell works on a textural multilayered fusion of sculpted papers on canvas or panel to make energized paintings of nature and wildlife. The technique, developed by and original to the artist, involves working with the history, character, personality, individuality, and performance level of a variety of papers to achieve lines and texture appropriate to the subject matter. Often a single sheet can comprise both foreground and background. Layered semi-transparent acrylic washes preface a galaxy of multi-hued pen-nib applied ink lines to enhance the depth and movement offered by each unique surface.
Mitchell was selected to exhibit and demonstrate her technique for the G20 Summit in Toronto (2010) at the Experience Canada global media centre as part of the Muskoka Corridor Experience, which garnered media attention for Muskoka Artists worldwide. She received nominations for the Muskoka YWCA Woman of Distinction Awards in Arts, Culture and Creative Energy (2010) and for Innovative Use of Technology, Muskoka Technology Achievement Award in (2012). Her work has featured in magazines, art publications, TV Cogeco’s Artifacts series, and Still Point Gallery’s juried global exhibition. Mitchell’s commissions include installation celebration of Tom Thomson at Nuit Blanche North (2012) and cover for Huntsville Festival of The Art’s annual guide (2013).

Quotes
Brian Smith, AOCA, Honorary Drawing Master, describes her work: "Each of us as visual artists is looking for a way to express ourselves in a manner that is unique and ownable. What I saw was a technique that was completely original, using the materials in a new and inventive way, and was on top of all of that, extremely pleasant to look at. The textures were like eye-candy and I kept coming back to it to better understand what Mitchell had created. I love it!"
